Houston, Texas - 10 million people a year frequent Houston’s Memorial Park, one of America’s largest urban green spaces. We designed the $4-million “Living Bridge” as a seamless connection between the park’s north and south sectors. It bridges Memorial Drive, one of Houston’s busiest corridors. Terraced planting beds capable of supporting sustainable shrubs, small trees, and vines are engineered into the structure, which links to existing trails. What hikers, joggers, and cyclists, as well as the traffic below, will see once this elevated green crossing reaches maturity is uninterrupted nature amid Houston’s urban density – a kind of visual topiary that actually is what it mimics: a bridge.
